Thu Aug 25 2011: Back to Northern Iceland

Kerlingarfjoll (A) to Glaumbaer (B) to Blonduos (C)

Early morning frost on the motorcycle seat = Crank up the electrics for the morning ride.

We woke up early to beat the morning crowd at the main cabin, where the owners served a simple breakfast and complementary coffee and tea. When we checked out the bikes, we were surprised to see our frost-covered seats. The temperatures drop over night at this altitude, but as soon as the sun rose over the mountain peaks, our bikes began thawing. Throughout this whole trip, the temperatures have been hovering between 6C-12C.

... Big wheels keep on turning...

At Kerlingarfjoll, we see an example of the type of vehicle that crosses F-roads in Iceland. I'd be happy with a skinny 21" front wheel - these tires are larger than our motorcycles!!! Rental companies do not insure their non-4x4 vehicles to be taken on F-roads. Not sure if that applies to our rental bikes? Oh well...

Haven't seen another vehicle for hours. About as good a place to stop as any...

Waterfall near Kerlingarfjoll

Fording a stream, GS-stylez

Reached the northern coast of Iceland again, where we are greeted with farmland and plenty of greenery.

North Iceland

A lot of the hostels we dropped in to had guestbooks that we were encouraged to leave comments in. Kind of like a Facebook wall.
So I spammed them...

We visited some more turfhouses near Glaumbaer in North Iceland

They preserved and converted these turfhouses into a museum

Back yard of the turf house kind of blends in with the house itself

Church in Glaumbaer

We had dinner at Olafshus (Olaf's House) in Saudarkrokur, this is the building across the street

Olaf the Magician had warned the neighbourhood kids not to ride on his property or there'd be consequences
