Fri Jul 27 2007: Beach Day San Sebastián

Haha, I just called a hotel in the Andalucian region to make a reservation for tomorrow. When I gave the reservation desk my local number, she said, "But you are in San Sebastián, you are in the north of Spain, we are in the south of Spain!", I said, "We'll make it!". I hope we do...! We're actually in the north-east area, close to the French border, and we have to make it clear across to the south-west region - exactly 1080 kms in a day!

Our hotel. If you know Neda, you might think she just came back from shopping for clothes, but this is actually groceries and nosh (that's British for food) for our long trip tomorrow!

All our stuff for this trip. Wish we had a dedicated motorcycle closet like this!
With a safe to keep my A* stuff so Kevin won't be tempted to steal them when he comes over!

We had quite the relaxing day in San Sebastián today. Got up late, just before noon and caught the last MotoGP over the web. I'm assuming everyone's already watched it, so it wouldn't be spoiling if I said it was kind of a boring race. Figures, we're in Spain, the land of MotoGP and where is it being run? California. And then it takes a break for a month. And when we get back to Canada, where is being run? Europe...

We love eating at tapas bars because you don't have to speak Spanish. All the dishes
are at the bar, just point at what you want and they'll serve it to you!

After the race we wandered out to catch a bus back to the tourist section to grab lunch. Wandered around till we found a nice tapas bar and grabbed a few sandwiches and a beer. Then walked towards the beach and sat in the sun for a few hours. The area was filled with tourists from all over the world, mostly British, some French and some North Americans as well. It was really nice just to get off the bikes for a day, sit on the beach and veg. The weather was really nice, about 28C, not as hot as yesterday. I'm hoping the weather stays this way tomorrow when we do our long haul down through Spain. I checked the forecast and southern Spain will hit 37C on Tuesday. Yikes!

Us on the beach :)

And this is on a Friday afternoon, can you imagine the weekend?

Yesterday was laundry day, so today we spent the day waiting for our clothes to dry. Yes, we could have had the hotel do it for us, but for €3.50 per article for a whole weeks worth of laundry, we decided the bathroom sink was a more cost-effective alternative. I packed about 10 changes of clothes, but we're planning to make laundry a weekly activity, probably coincide it with our rest day, wherever we end up.

Scooters are very, very popular in Europe!

We're going to try to make it an early night, as I've set the alarm for 5AM tomorrow. 1080 kms tomorrow. Ugh!
